World Solar Car Challenge

One of the exciting aspects of being here in Adelaide has been arrival of the cars competing in the World Solar Car Challenge that starts in Darwin and finishes in Adelaide. Unfortunately we missed the arrival of the faster cars but got to see some of the slower teams arrive today. Driving these cars is very tough and the interior of the vehicles can become very hot and very uncomfortable. The faster cars resemble the ‘flat-bed’ styles most associate with the event. These cars are extremely light and only cater for a driver who virtually lays flat to control the vehicle. The slower cars are more like normal vehicles and certainly give hope that one day we can all be driving solar-powered vehicles.

The UNSW Sunswift team arrived this morning to a great reception.
