Sunsprint Information

Hey everyone,

Came across this SMCC Sunsprint page a few days ago and thought I might suggest having a bit of a look at the Tasmanian and Victorian websites for some ideas and hints.

There are a few pdf help files there as well as plenty of photos of past cars. I have also just recently added a fair bit of info to the CHALLENGE HELP page on the Tas website.

Also be sure to check out the solarfreaks.com model solar challenge forum and feel free to post any questions you might like answered. Several national committee members as well as numerous past and present competitors are signed up to the site and so an answer should not be too far away.

While Jaycar is fine for things like car wiring and switches, places like Scorpio Technology, RI gear and solarmppt.com are probably more suitable suppliers in areas like solar panels, motors, wheels, gears, electronics, etc since many of their products are aimed specifically at the solar challenge.

Good luck with everything this year,

  1. Thanks for posting up my last comment. I had thought that you guys may like a few hints as I know how difficult the challenge can be for 1st year teams. As last year’s group may have found out, some schools and students have been involved in the event for many years and produce some very high quality cars.

I like how the school has set up a Sunsprint page and blog to document everyone’s progress and I have included a link to both from the Tasmanian website. The team running the blog may even be able to submit this instead of a poster at your NSW event (providing that it covers most of the relevant content).

I will be keeping an eye out on your progress over the coming months and probably post a few more comments in that time. Although a lot of info is already up on the web, if anyone has any challenge-related questions they may like answered then feel free to post them on here, solarfreaks.com or in the message box on the Tas website’s contact page (or use the email address given) and I will be more than happy to respond.

    Regards,

Marc – Tasmanian & Australian-International Model Solar Challenges
